Thank you STL!

You have been such a supportive community for this small business, and we are SO grateful!! Thank you for all you have done.

When I first graduated, I knew I wanted to change the health of the nation. I saw that being huge. I also saw that the job I was doing that was intended to make an impact just wasn't helping people.

When I discovered that I could truly make an impact by making healthy meals for people and delivering them to their homes, I was hooked! Now, me and my company are honored to make a healthier St. Louis for YOU!

The Weight Loss Journey Continues!

My weight loss journey continues!! At the beginning of 2020 I committed to losing 10lbs without "going on a diet". I wanted to lose it by eating real food (thank you, Basically It Meals), living my life and changing my relationship with food in a real way.

Week 1 - I dropped almost 5 pounds, which meant I was halfway to my goal in only 7 days. I was so freaking excited and thought "that was easy!".

Week 2 - Reality set in. During week 1 motivation was high, but week 2 it waned and life returned to normal, I realized I was eating a lot of times that weren't lunch and dinner, and for a lot of reasons that weren't hunger.

I had to figure out how to stop eating for all the emotional reasons. This is where most of us get stuck. Forever! It is really difficult to get beyond this.

Self-awareness is the first step. You have to be able to recognize what emotion you are experiencing when you're eating off plan. For most (and for me) it is stress, anxiety, worry and boredom.

Week 3,...

Green Smoothie Recipe

What do I even put in a green smoothie?

Any smoothie can be green if you simply add a little spinach, which does not affect taste. Smoothies are an amazing way to get your daily nutrients and promote weight loss!

I recommend trying one of my favorite green smoothie recipes:
1/4 zucchini
1 cup spinach
1/4 avocado
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
1 tsp cinnamon
1 cup water and ice

Blend and enjoy!

Ask The Nutritionist!

Question: "Are vegetarian lentil burgers lower in calories than beef burgers?" -Kelsey

Answer: While calories are a popular measure of healthy-or-not, I encourage you to explore how well the food keeps you satiated as opposed to just looking at calories! Every body reacts differently to foods; some bodies enjoy more protein, some do better with less protein and more complex carbs. That is up to you and your body to find out!

To figure this out: eat both foods in question slowly and on totally separate days. See how the foods feel as you eat; how quickly are you filling up, do you feel energized, sated, queezy, tired? 30 minutes later check in again; tired, nauseous, light, energized? Two hours later; hungry, sleepy, sick, bloated? This simple check in can tell you exactly what foods work well for your body and you can use it as a measure to determine how to eat in general.

I love answering your questions for Ask the Nutritionist! If you have a question you would like answered,...

Potions & Powders

I'm sure you've heard of a few: maca, matcha, ashwaghanda, spirulina, dandelion root....to name a few. But what the heck are all of these and do you actually need to be eating them?

The answer is no, not necessarily! These potions and powders are a nutritionist hackers dream, but totally not necessary for a healthy life.

Maintaining a healthy regular diet is way more important, however if you are a smoothie junkie like me, you may want to try one or two of these out....they have some pretty cool benefits!

3 Foods That Are Easy to Overdo It On!

1. Frozen yogurt: While this can be a slightly healthier alternative to ice cream, that is what makes it dangerous! We tend to eat more when we know its "healthy-er". Keep your portion small and limit your toppings to one favorite!

2. Popcorn: I too am a fan of all the delicious popcorn flavors you can find everywhere nowadays, and while popcorn is far better than chips or pretzels, it can still be overdone. While popcorn's nutritional stats are decent, it goes down easy and by the handful. Topped with some artificial butter or cheese powder, it can pack a punch of calories without you even realizing it.

3. Peanut butter: Yes, a wonderfully healthy source of fats, fiber and protein, it is also very calorically dense and the serving size can disappear alongside crackers or veggie sticks with two bites. Portion it out ahead of time to be sure you know how much you are eating.
